Love is a major factor in happiness, bringing feelings of contentment and satisfaction. It’s also contagious—our brains mirror what we see others do.
The most common sources of happiness are close relationships, a job or past time that gives people joy and helping others. Happiness experts say that we can increase our happiness by focusing on the things in life that matter most, including a positive outlook, optimism, good health, and a sense of purpose.

Research shows that happy people are optimistic and have a “take on the world” attitude. They train themselves to not make a big deal of minor hassles, and keep working toward their goals. Having people they can count on is important to them, and they take the time to show loved ones how much they care. These activities may include spending time with friends, volunteering to help others, and just telling people that they are proud of them.
