Several different theories of love have been put forward in the last two centuries. In the early 1980s, psychologist Robert Sternberg proposed a triangular model of love in which a person falls in love by sharing a series of intimate moments with someone. He broke love into three components: the passion, the commitment, and the intimacy. The triangular model has since been refined and adapted by many scientists.
